Charles Correa Foundation to keep his legacy alive

To encourage architecture, urban design and community projects for betterment of natural and built habitat; to institute fellowships that support, coordinate and direct such projects

PANJIM: The Charles Correa Foundation (CCF) on Friday announced its decision to continue with the work of the architect who passed away earlier this year by revamping the foundation’s structure and unveiling several projects they have currently taken up.
Shrinivas Dempo, a trustee of the foundation highlighted Correa’s vision of solving social problems through design.
“We will put in all our efforts to see that the legacy of Charles Correa lives on. We will continue to carry on the vision of the foundation by encouraging architecture, urban design and community projects that work for the betterment of our natural and built habitat, through instituting fellowships that support, coordinate and direct such projects,” Dempo said.
He also announced that the foundation was working on revamping Goa University. Though in its nascent stage, he said the aim was to give the institution a more vibrant look while reflecting the State’s culture. Talks have been held with Goa University Vice Chancellor Satish Shetye and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Some of the other projects the foundation has designed include one of using inland water ways to promote tourism, creating a prototype anganwadi in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development to promote a child-friendly atmosphere, land development in Mala that is currently in the need of an infrastructural and environmental upgrade, building a comprehensive archive of maps and information on Panjim and bettering the signage system in Panjim to help promote an easy way finding system.
The foundation has also completed work on a visitor’s map for Panjim and a comprehensive report covering 900 buildings in the city’s heritage area that has been submitted to the Town and Country Planning Department for review.
They also announced their annual Dwell 2015 workshop to be held between October 29 and November 1 and their annual ‘The Z axis’ conference to be held around the time of Correa’s birthday, next year. 
The current trustees of the foundation include Shrinivas Dempo, Nondita Correa Mehrotra, Nasser-eddin Mukhtar Munjee, Ramabadran Gopalkrishnan, Dr Oscar Rebello, Christopher Heredia, Armino Ribeiro and Rahul Deshpande. 
Members of the Executive Committee include Armino Ribeiro, Ameet Sukhtankar, Pankaj Joshi, Rahul Deshpande, Rahul Mehrotra, Neelkanth Chhaya and Ruturaj Parikh.
