PANJIM: Local groups have complained to the PWD department over the poor quality of roads and questioned what had happened to the assurance given by PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar that the potholes would have been repaired before Ganesh Chaturthi.

Pointing out to the difficulties locals faced due to the bad road conditions during the festival, especially when it came to travelling with the Ganpati idols, the locals expressed their disappointment that this year too they had to face these kinds of problems.
The groups showed that there were road issues in various parts of the State and that in some places, they had to take action themselves and try to fill up the potholes with loose mud or put barricades to warn commuters about the bad stretches.
They pointed out that during the heavy rains, these roads deteriorated further and that water had covered the potholes, making it quite a bumpy ride for unsuspecting commuters.
“We had earlier complained about the road conditions and were told that it would be solved soon. Now they are saying by December it will be fixed and hot mixed again. But they should have fixed the potholes before Ganesh Chaturthi,” said Manjunath Naik from Ponda.
Locals questioned why PWD instead doesn’t do a proper survey of the roads that require urgent repair works first.
Incidentally, some of the complainants were from the PWD Minister’s constituency of Sanvordem and they lamented that they had to face water supply issues as well during the festival. They added that having to make alternate arrangements for water during this festive time is what upset them the most.
