CANACONA: Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida stated that the KTC complex at Chaudi will shortly receive a shot in the arm, with the corporation set to undertake repairs and proper illumination of the complex.
Various KTC bus stands in various parts of the State are also likely to be re-classified as urban and rural for purpose of calculation of rents of shops within its premises.
Almeida visited KTC complex Chaudi on Tuesday following complaints from rented shop owners that they are compelled to pay exorbitant rent. Almeida informed the aggrieved shop owners that request will be made to the government to classify various complexes as urban and rural, which will help to reduce the rent.
Almeida was requested to intervene and stop the high rent for the shops rented in KTC bus stand, as some operators are forced to pay rent as high as Rs 12,000 a month.
Almeida along with local MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, besides KTC MD Nato Pereira, GM (Traffic) Sanjay Ghate and Director Sarvanand Bhagat went around the complex at Chaudi and gave a patient hearing to the shop owners.
“The rent is fixed by PWD as per prevailing norms. The rent seems to be high and needs government consideration. We have fixed a meeting with the government on Friday, where we will put a request for Rural Urban classification of KTC complexes, which will also help in reducing shop rent,” Almeida assured.
