MARGAO: The retailers who purchase fish from the traders at Margao wholesale fish market have complained of less quantity of fish being given by the agents.

The traders have complained that this is a common complaint of various retailers who come to purchase fish at the wholesale fish market.

On Saturday morning, a retailer who had purchased two boxes of fish, each weighing 20 kgs, was surprised to realise instead of 40 kgs, the fish boxes were weighing 43 kgs, 7 kgs less, when he had paid for 20 kgs.

The retailer complained to the Levy Collection Contractor Milagres Fernandes on the issue.

The retailer said, “This is a common problem.”

“If we are given 7 kgs less in 40 kgs boxes what are we going to earn? He asked while urging the authorities to protect them from cheating.”

The Levy Collection Contractor Milagres Fernandes took up the issue with the trader and then the trader on warning paid the difference to the retailer.

Fernandes said that the Goans selling fish in the wholesale at the market have a good practice of tagging each crate with the weight and prices.

“The traders are not following the norms and the retailers are being fooled. An action must be taken against these traders,” said Fernandes.
