Cheating Case: Accused Morjim Branch Post Master Apprehended

In a significant development, the Pernem Police have successfully apprehended an absconding accused person in connection with a cheating case involving the Morjim Post Office. The accused, identified as Narayan Bhage, from Talavane in Sawantwadi, Sindhudurg Maharashtra, was employed as the Branch Post Master at the Morjim Branch Post Office.

The case dates back to August 4, 2023, when the Pernem Police Station received a complaint lodged by the Inspector of Posts from the Mapusa Sub-Division, Mapusa Goa. The complaint alleged that the accused, Narayan Bhage, had exploited his position as the Branch Post Master at the Morjim Post Office. He reportedly failed to credit a substantial sum of cash from multiple depositors and members of the public, amounting to a total of Rs. 8,37,050/-, during the period between August 1, 2021, and February 7, 2023. 

Consequently, a criminal case was registered against Narayan Bhage under Sections 409 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Pernem Police Station, designated as Crime No: 76/2023.

Following the commission of the offence, the accused went into hiding, prompting the Pernem Police to launch a thorough search operation. A dedicated team was assembled for the task, employing a combination of electronic and technical surveillance methods to track down the absconding accused. 

The operation proved successful when, on August 9, 2023, the accused was apprehended at a Border Check Post.
