Cheers to drunken driving in party belt: No alcometer in Anjuna PS

Anjuna Traffic Cell has just two which don’t function; Calangute PS has four

The police station in Anjuna, the most happening party destination for tourists descending to Goa shockingly doesn’t have a single working alcometer according to the police records. The Police stations together have been allotted only two alcometers of which both are non-functional now.

Calangute Police Station that receives the highest footfall of tourists has only five alcometers of which four are presently in working condition. 

According to the figures of Excise Department Bardez taluka alone accounts for one third of the liquor sales and outlets selling liquor. 

Surprisingly, the number of alcometers allotted to the enforcement agency that is police is completely contrary.

The DySP Traffic Siddhant Shirodkar said that the Goa Traffic Police is augmenting the existing strength and is giving them to the police stations which have high tourist footfall. “In absence of alcometers, the suspected violators of drink and drive will be sent to health centres for blood tests to ascertain their intoxication levels,” Shirodkar added.
