Chella Kumar says no to any alliance, ‘at this stage’

Faleiro says wait till Sept 30 for a final call

PANJIM: The Congress continued to speak in less than a firm voice on the issue of an alliance for the 2017 elections.
Less than a fortnight since AICC general secretary in charge of Goa Digvijay Singh said that the Congress was open to alliances, AICC secretary Dr Chella Kumar said no to alliances, “at this stage”. GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro who has been opposed to alliances was however a trifle circumspect by saying a final decision will be taken after September 30.
Dr Chella Kumar said, “We are not thinking about any alliance at this stage. We are preparing for the 2017 elections.”
Digvijay Singh, by contrast on August 27 had said, “Our fight is with the communal forces and any party that wants to fight communalism is welcome.”
And then GPCC president, Luizinho Faleiro said, “Give us time till September 30. We will decide on alliance by then.”
“By September 30, the names would be sent to Congress election committee for final approval. At that time, we will be able to place our stand on an alliance,” he stated.
