MARGAO: How many more Fridays will the chief chemist and the PWD, water supply take to give the green signal that the water supplied to Madgavkars through the damaged pipeline is fit for human consumption?
Friday will mark exactly two weeks since citizens from the densely populated Malbhat-Pajifond-Gandhi market were supplied with contaminated water after a road excavation had left the underground water pipeline damaged.
While the PWD had appealed to the consumers of Malbhat-Pajifond-Gandhi market belt not to consume water on November 21-22 as the pipeline will undergo a series of tests, the residents have heard nothing from the PWD whether water released through the pipeline is fit for consumption.
Local PWD officials said that the PWD line has been repaired and water released around a week ago, but they are still waiting for the green signal from the chief chemist before asking the people to consumer water.
For the local PWD officials, the situation is further compounded by the fact that the office continues to receive complaints that the service line is clogged with dirt. Complaints are also trickling in that dirt still flows through the tap water.
, indicating that though the pipeline has been flushed, remnants of dirt and other items still remain in the service lines.
Sources said that beleaguered residents of the affected area have still not started consuming the tap water as a precautionary measure. “If the chief chemist is dragging her feet to give the green signal to the PWD, things appears to have not come to normal yet. Let the PWD tell us when we should consume the tap water,” remarked a resident, who had to fall back on water supplied through the tankers for daily use and mineral water for drinking purpose.
