VASCO: Chicalim gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution to prepare new Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) by consulting and taking inputs from the locals and stakeholders and submit it to the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority.
Earlier, the gram sabha member raised strong objection to the existing ‘erroneous’ CZMP.
At the meeting, the villagers said that the existing CZMP for Chicalim has got numerous errors. Some major landmarks and structures which are of great significance to Chicalim, have not been shown in the existing plan. Therefore, locals decided to scrap the existing plan and prepare a new one with inputs from the villagers.
The meeting also discussed about the area available in the village which can be demarcated for building schools, recreational centres, hospitals and open spaces in future as per the land use plan proposed by MPDA.
The gram sabha members adopted a resolution not to give permission for any new projects – single or multi-dwelling or industrial – until the garbage management plan is put in place.
The gram sabha further adopted a resolution to make water harvesting compulsory for new projects before issuing licence.
The gram sabha proposed a scientific study of carrying capacity of the village in relation to the increasing population, pollution, garbage generation, consumption of drinking water, power consumption, sewage management etc. The villagers asked panchayat to write it to the authorities concerned to undertake the study.
