VASCO: Chicalim Bio-Crusaders convenor Cyril Fernandes on Saturday appealed to the people to protect Goa’s rich biodiversity.
Fernandes highlighted the over-exploitation of freshly breeding window pane oysters in Chicalim and Sancoale Bay by people from Mormugao taluka and other parts of the State.
According to Fernandes, after many years window pane oysters are attempting to rebreed in the Chicalim Bay and people need to help this breeding activity. But it is often observed that people from across South Goa district converging at this ecologically sensitive site and causing immense damage to the local biodiversity in their pursuit of extracting the under-developed window pane oysters.
“On behalf of Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, I appeal to the people to help protect the breeding site from the human attack against these species which cannot defend itself but needs human support to survive and grow to its natural formations,” Fernandes said.
