VASCO: Acting on the appeal made by Chief Minister to all the Goans for suggesting proposals to revive the rural economy in the post COVID-19 scenario, the newly elected members of Chicalim Village Development Committee (VDC) have worked out on detail plan for the revival of the village economy.
The proposal was submitted by Valerie Afonso in the presence of Roopa Naik, Sanjay Mhalsekhar, Cynthia Lime Leitao Miranda and Cyril Fernandes to acting Chicalim Panchayat Sarpanch Kamala Prasad Yadav, on Friday. They were guided by eminent Economist of Goa M A Sundaram.
The plan provides detailed information on the rural economy revival plan as sought by the Chief Minister. Some of the schemes proposed by the villagers include pearl farming, mussels farming, oyster farming, solar energy conservation and sale of the same, kitchen gardening, poultry farming, apiaries for honey production, and use of fallow land for agriculture.
According to a press release issued by Cyril Fernandes, chairman of Chicalim Biodiversity Heritage Site Committee, the basic aim is to develop the village of Chicalim to a self-sufficient independent commune in sync with nature and its natural resources.
Valerie explained the various features of the revival plan to the acting sarpanch.
She also requested him to arrange for a meeting of the VDC members with the local MLA and Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho.
She further conveyed that the VDC members would also like to call upon the Chief Minister along with their MLA to hand over the copy of the revival plan and seek his cooperation and guidance.
