VASCO: Chicalim villagers have demanded action against illegal constructions which they claimed to have mushroomed in the Dabolim area.
Villagers demanded land for dumping solid waste at another place as they cannot have the same in village considering the proximity of the airport.
At the Sunday’s gram sabha, the members raised three issues namely garbage dumping site, rampant illegal constructions in the village and mobile tower near the panchayat.
The locals strongly opposed the illegal constructions in Ward Nos 2, 3, 4 and 6 in Dabolim. Locals asked sarpanch Seby Pereira to take strict action against the illegal construction activities to ensure that there are no illegal constructions in Chicalim panchayat jurisdiction. Sarpanch Pereira assured the locals that he would act as per their demand.
Later, the members strongly opposed the mobile tower near the panchayat and demanded its removal. The locals demanded that the panchayat find a land to set up garbage treatment plant.
The Chicalim panchayat cannot set up a garbage treatment plant in its jurisdiction considering the proximity of the Dabolim airport. The locals demanded that efforts be made at the state level to have dedicated waste dumping site for Chicalim villagers as permanent solution.
