VASCO: In view of the conditions under which the newly built Chicalim sub district hospital is running, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho has stated that the Health Minister has assured him that the issues such as lack of equipment, staff are being looked into at the earliest. The hospital which has moved up from a cottage hospital to the sub district hospital was in dire straits and had not received the infrastructure and personnel that was promised when it was inaugurated.
Given that the hospital was meant to provide medical services to the people of Mormugao Taluka, locals had complained about the problems they face and had pointed out that basic materials were in short supply and that the elevator was not working. When Panchayat Minister Godinho, was asked to comment about the hospital’s sorry state of affairs, he said that he is pursuing the matter. He reiterated that he had received assurances that better equipment will be provided along with recruitment of doctors, nurses and technicians. He added that the work had been delayed due to the code of conduct.
Locals had also pointed out that there is no separate bathroom for males and females and that the hospital also suffers from frequent power fluctuations.
