VASCO: The new 120-bedded Cottage Hospital at Chicalim was inaugurated on Friday by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and in presence of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho. The new hospital is constructed at a cost of Rs 27.95 crore.
Minister Milind Naik, MLAs Alina Saldanha, Carlos Almeida, GSIDC Chairman Deepak Prabhu Pauskar and others were present at the inauguration.
The existing 60-bedded hospital was dilapidated and the new hospital overdue for inauguration. The new hospital is an upgrade multi-specialty Sub District Hospital to cater to the increasing number of patients. The hospital will primarily serve the population of areas Chicalim, Vasco, Mormugao, Dabolim, Cortalim, Bogmalo and other areas.
On the occasion, Rane said, “When I start speaking about employment of staff, it is taken in a different way. I assure people that may it be the district hospital of South Goa or the Chicalim Sub District Cottage Hospital which has been just inaugurated, I am of the opinion that locals from Mormugao will be given preference while employing staff.”
Similarly, he said, people of South Goa would get first preference for the employment of staff in District Hospital of South Goa.
