VASCO: Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday informed that the new sub-district hospital at Chicalim would be commissioned in January next year.
He said unless all staff, including doctors, specialists, nurses, and other medical staff were recruited for the new medical facility, having the commissioning ceremony would have been like shifting cottage hospital to its new premises.
“The new sub-district hospital at Chicalim can be inaugurated in less than a month time, but I will not inaugurate it till we have sufficient staff,” Godinho emphasised.
“We are fully seized of the present condition of Chicalim cottage hospital, but we will not inaugurate the new sub-district hospital because it has to be done in a proper manner, as the new hospital would be a district-level hospital,” he said.
Considering the population of Mormugao Taluka, we need a full-fledged functional hospital and hence will wait for the staff and if the entire process would not be prolonged beyond February, even though we aim to commission it in the beginning of New Year,” he said.
