Chicalim Sub-District Hospital gets adequate medical staff

VASCO: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday fulfilled his promise by providing adequate medical staff at Chicalim Sub-District Hospital, to cater to the patients with general health care issues.

Doctors in specialised field and medical staff to attend to COVID-19 cases have also been deputed at the hospital to help the patients during this pandemic.

Dr Rajendra Borkar, health officer of Chicalim Sub-District Hospital said, “At present the district hospital has got adequate medical staff which was needed. We have got nurses, doctors and if we see at the staff requirement issue, we are now far better than before.”

When asked about the problem with regards to the staff, Dr Borkar informed that they had less number of nurses and doctors then. But now, because of COVID pandemic situation, additional new medical staff has been deputed at the Chicalim hospital.

Dr Borkar further revealed that at present there are 30 nurses and 17 doctors. Some of these doctors are for attending the COVID patients and the rest are for attending general health care issues.

“If the medical facilities are increased in this hospital then we might need more staff, but as of now we are unaware about any such plans,” said Dr Borkar.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister had paid a visit to the sub-district hospital in the month of May. During his visit, the Chief Minister had assured to solve the staff shortage issue within three months time.

He had also said that the operation theatre, dialysis unit will be functional within two months time.

Further commenting on the staff shortage, Dr Sawant had mentioned that as per his knowledge, the hospital is in need of two medical officers, one paediatrician, one orthopaedic, nurses and housekeeping staff etc.

“Within a few days time the staff shortage issue will be solved,” the Chief Minister had promised then.

The issue of the staff shortage in the newly built sub-district hospital got highlighted last monsoon season when the dengue cases increased in the Mormugao Taluka and there were few fatalities reported due to dengue spread.

The people from Vasco then had also confronted medical staff during the joint meeting wherein the Vasco MLA, MMC Chairperson, Deputy Collector and other locals were present.
