VASCO: The villagers of Chicalim along with panchayat members Roman Vaz and Francisco Nunes on Wednesday marched to the PWD (water supply) office at Baina protesting against the irregular water supply and demanded to provide regular water supply.
The villagers complained that they were not receiving tap for the last 11 days. The protestors said that though PWD water supply was affected due to power shut down but not supplying water for the last 11 days was unbearable.
They said that the PWD had only one water supply for the entire Mormugao taluka and it cannot meet the demand for water.
The restive villagers also demanded that the government should study the water problem before approving mega housing projects in the villages.
PWD assistant engineer Vishwambar Bhende assured the villagers that he would visit the affected area and take stock of the situation after water is released.
Chicalim panchayat member Francisco Nunes too said that the villagers were facing water scarcity for last 11 days. He said that those residing on the top floor of buildings and senior citizens were finding it difficult to take buckets filled with water by climbing steps.
He said that the PWD should make provision to provide water supply for minimum an hour every day.
