PANJIM: Former Union Minister and All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa election observer P Chidambaram on Friday appealed to the people of Goa to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ensuing Goa Assembly elections and to bring a change in the State.

”I hope people of Goa will realise that the BJP should be defeated in every election,” he told reporters in the presence of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar.

Chidambaram said, “There were many burning issues in Goa such as the three linear projects, mining, coal hub, Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill etc. But the BJP government will not mend its ways. The BJP runs the government with a dictatorial approach. Only way is to defeat it,” he said.

To a question, the AICC leader said that the Congress party is competent and fully prepared to defeat the BJP at the next hustings.

When his attention was drawn to one of the international media describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Hitler of India, Chidambaram said, ”Modi is Modi. He behaves like a dictator in the garb of a democrat. Hitler behaved like a dictator in the garb of a dictator. The only differences Modi is a dictator in the garb of a democrat.”
