PERNEM: Pernem Fire force team rescued ten people including a 2-year-old boy who were stranded due to flood at Vaskar wada in Dhargal, on Tuesday.
And normal life was affected in Pernem taluka general on Tuesday as several places in the taluka were flooded. Villagers in Shirgal-Dhargal stayed indoors due to flooding.
Villagers claimed that, since last four days, the main road connecting NH17 at Dhargal is flooded and water entered the houses and shops causing huge losses. According to the villagers, breaching of a bundh in the village caused the flooding.
The students and office goers, too, had to stay at home as the roads were flooded knee-deep. However, villagers arranged two canoes to ferry people and bring groceries and other materials.
Appealing to the government for help to cope with the flooding, the people have demanded construction of a new road and bundh to avoid flooding in future.
Heavy rains also resulted in heavy loss to the farmers as their fields were inundated and crops were damaged; several fruit bearing trees and plants were also toppled in the gusty winds. Similar situation was witnessed in Chandel, Tuem and other places.
Meanwhile, Pernem Mamlatdar Rajesh Ajgaonkar inspected flood situation in Khutwal, Chandel Hasapur, Kasarwrnem and Tuem area on Tuesday and helped the affected households.
Flood affected residents have been shifted to safer locations.
Meanwhile, Tuesday was a busy day for the Pernem fire staff as they attended to 19 emergency calls; 14 of the calls were of house damage.
The house of one Ravikant Morajkar was damaged after a huge mango tree came crashing it, causing loss of Rs 3 lakh.
