PANJIM: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old girl child died after falling into a bathtub containing hot water at a centre for the specially-abled in Old Goa on Monday.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 5 pm on Sunday at a training centre for children with disabilities in Old Goa. The child, who sustained burn injuries, succumbed to the same at 2 am on Monday while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
In a letter to the State’s Child Welfare Committee, Fr Rosario Walter D’Souza, who represents the missionary-run centre, stated that the child fell into the bathtub filled with hot water when the warden had gone to fetch more water.
Two persons from the institute i.e. a 51-year-old warden and a 48-year-old helper have been booked under Section 304-A of IPC, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act, and Sections 75 and 85 of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
An inquiry under the supervision of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) will be conducted into the incident as it is related to a minor.
Meanwhile, the inquest panchanama and the post-mortem were conducted under the supervision of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) on Tuesday. The police have also conducted a primary investigation into the matter and are waiting for the report of the SDM’s findings.
