Child molester accused roams free, molested victim lives in fear

Victim and sister still at home for more than two months and stare at a dark future, locals worried for the siblings; want justice for the two girls; demand proper education and counselling by the government

PONDA: The residents of Marcaim are worried for the future of two sisters who left school two months ago after the older sibling was allegedly molested by the PE teacher and are still at home.

In this regard, the parents of the victim girl as well as the victim had filed a police complaint at Mardol Police Station against accused PE teacher Vishwas Prabhudesai. The traumatised victim girl left school after the incident and her younger sister too followed her and left school and still continue to spend their precious time at home.

Social worker Premanand Gaude at Marcaim said the villagers had protested at Mardol Police Station twice demanding justice for the victim girl.

He said that after the bitter experience, the victim left the school and because of the elder sister’s ordeal, her younger sister followed suit.

“Government needs to give justice to two young girls who are minors, provide them with proper education facilities and counselling. Government should bear the cost of education if they are given admission to a new school, be it in a nearby or a distant location,” Gaude said.

He asserted that the government can’t ignore the plight of these girls. If the victim and her sister remain neglected and their future remains uncertain, then in future nobody will come forward to file a complaint against injustice done to them and the accused will roam freely.

The incident of molestation took place on March 25. The victim girl had reported to her school teacher and the headmaster.

However, inaction by the school prompted the victim and her parents to file a police complaint at Mardol Police Station on August 28.

The police registered an offence against PE teacher Vishwas Prabudesai (53) under Section 354 of IPC, Section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act and Section 8, 12 of POCSO Act.

Accused PE teacher remains out on anticipatory bail
PONDA: The accused PE teacher in the molestation case, Vishwas Prabhudesai filed an application for anticipatory bail at Children’s Court following the police complaint by the minor victim and was granted the same.
While he was suspended subsequently by the school management, he continues to roam about freely.
The Mardol Police also booked the school headmaster and one lady teacher for allegedly violating section 19 of the POCSO Act and not filing police complaint against the accused, despite the fact that this incident was reported to them by the victim girl way back in March this year.
The headmaster and the teacher have been granted anticipatory bail by the Goa Children’s Court.
