PANJIM: Taking cognisance of media reports regarding lack of safety for children at railway stations, Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) on Friday wrote to the railways authority highlighting the importance of stringent safety and security measures for children.
“The railway personnel deployed have to be sensitised and informed regarding procedures and actions to be taken in situations where there is any suspicion or irregularity observed among the passengers or any person in the station,” states the letter submitted to the railways authority.
GSCPCR also suggested periodic awareness programmes for the staff on measures that can be taken to ensure children’s safety and said that the police and railway personnel need to be directed to scrutinise documents or to question any suspicious behaviour.
“Also there should be regular monitoring of CCTV footage and ensuring that CCTVs are in working condition. Also prompt reporting of any violation of children’s right to the concerned authorities, NGOs can be contacted and the CWC and GSCPCR apprised of such situations,” the letter mentions.
Recently a CCTV camera installed at Margao railway station captured a man kidnapping a three-year-old girl who was sleeping on the platform with her family.
