MARGAO: The Goa State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights expressed disappointment that the local panchayats have failed to stop the dumping of garbage on the roadside near a school at Davorlim.
On Monday, Child Rights panel chief Peter F Borges inspected the black spot, strewn with mixed waste including putrid chicken carcasses, which poses a health hazard to the students who walk past it everyday. Months ago, the Child Rights panel had asked the Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation, besides the three panchayats; Sao Jose De Areal, Curtorim and Davorlim, to clean up the garbage and find a long-term solution. “Even after the stretch is cleaned up, the garbage returns. The local panchayats need to find a solution,” said Borges.
