PANJIM: After O Heraldo highlighted how pedestrians had to bear with water falling on them from air conditioners when they walked on the city pavements, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) through a public notice has warned to initiate action against the owners of such premises if they fail to stop the water leakage from ACs by April 15.
“It has been brought to the notice of this Corporation that water from Air Conditioners is being released directly on the pavements within Panaji City. The said act causes public nuisance to the pedestrians using the pavements/footpaths.
“As such, the concerned owners/offenders are directed to ensure that this act is immediately stopped, failing which the Corporation of the City of Panaji shall take necessary action against such owners/offenders with effect from April 15, 2023,” reads the public notice issued by CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate.
It is pertinent to note that the Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) had organised a unique umbrella protest in the capital city highlighting the hardships faced by the pedestrians due to falling of water from ACs on footpaths.
GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins had said that many government offices, banks and business houses are using ACs. Water falls on the pavements from these ACs, making it difficult for pedestrians to walk.
“There have been instances of people, especially senior citizens, falling due to slippery conditions of pavements,” Martins said.
He had said that the rights of the pedestrians and especially senior citizens to clear and safe footpaths are violated.
