PANJIM: Villagers of Chimbel on Sunday unanimously adopted a resolution not to submit the declaration of the village being well equipped with transportation, treatment and garbage collection facility, until the garbage issue of the village is actually resolved.
The Gram Sabha also adopted a resolution to a conduct joint inspection compromising a team of garbage committee members, Secretary and Presiding Officer within a week’s time to inspect the garbage black spots accumulated across the village and to prepare a report to initiate further action required to resolve this issue.
Village Panchayat Chimbel on Sunday held an extraordinary Gram Sabha with the agenda of SwachBharat mission (G) –Phase II. Under this agenda, the government had sought a declaration from the village panchayat about inadequate arrangements for solid waste management (SWM) including that of plastic and other garbage in their village.
The government has also asked the VP to submit the draft regarding whether adequate garbage collection, transportation and treatment facilities are available at the community or household level in the village or not.
The members of Gram Sabha took strong objection during this hour and opposed filling the aforementioned declaration when placed for discussion.
Villager Avinash Shirodkar said, “With ample local issues including that of garbage being left unresolved by the village panchayat for several years, how can we send the declaration that the issue of garbage has been tackled and solved by the VP? He added saying, “Sending false declaration will be totally unfair and wrong.”
A resident of VP Chimbel, Ajay Kholkar said, “The garbage issue is haunting the Village Panchayat Chimbel for several years. The heaps of garbage are accumulated across the Chimbelvillage and the black garbage spots can be seen at numerous places in VP including Indiranagar, roadsides near a military camp, temple areas and at many such places.”
He alleged that the Chimbel Panchayat never cleared or picks up the garbage. He feared the growing issue of garbage would give rise to vector-borne diseases in the village.
Yet another villager Anant Narvekar lamented about the village drainages being clogged with garbage, plastic bottles and dirt.
He alleged that the panchayat is never bothered to clean this drainage due to which it gets accumulated with waste and other refused items.
