PANJIM: Chimbel Gram Sabha on Sunday unanimously raised objection to Central government’s Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme vertical of PMAY-U project, proposed in their village, to accommodate 51 homeless persons.
The Chimbel Gram Sabha, held almost after a year-long gap in view of COVID-19 pandemic, also opposed Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill and demanded exclusion of Kadamba Plateau from the jurisdiction of Greater Panjim Planning and Development Area (GPPDA).
The meeting was attended by St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, who assured villagers to take up the matter with the government.
Speaking to Herald, local resident Tukaram Kunkolkar said that under PMAY-U Scheme, the Central government has approved a project on the land provided by Provedoria.
“It is claimed to be an old age home project but the plan does not seem to be. We are against having the project in our village, as we are deprived of several basic facilities such as playground, health centre, etc,” he said.
Kunkolkar said that the existing home for the aged abandoned due to its dilapidated condition. He said that the project, which was opposed last year too, is being re-introduced by the government in its Budget.
Further, raising its strong objection to the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, which the government has allowed to be lapsed, the villagers fear that with the BJP government coming back to power, the Bill might also raise its head again.
The members alleged that the Bill is nothing but an attempt of the government to secure their migrant vote bank.
They demanded that rather than giving house numbers to illegal structures, the government should take action against those who have encroached upon Comunidade or government land.
During the meeting, Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar assured to update the panchayat website within a month and also to clear all garbage black spots.
