This happened due to the blockade of the storm water drain, which had occurred due to the ongoing works of the widening of the NH4A bypass road.
Naik informed Herald that it was at around 10 pm on Tuesday night that muddy water suddenly started gushing into her home from the back and soon the entire house was filled with knee deep slush, which she along with her daughter and neighbours tried to drain out using buckets.
“We were kept awake till 3 am and got little sleep as we had to wake up early to clear the slush from the house,” Naik said while pointing to a room full of thick slush.
Naik further informed that never before had water entered her house but this time around it happened as the storm water drain was blocked due to the widening work of the NH4A bypass road.
The other houses in Naik’s neighbourhood were lucky as their houses were spared from the muddy water. However their pathways were full of it, making walking and riding difficult.
Now, the locals have demanded that the PWD authorities should immediately clear the blocked storm water drain so that such incidents are not repeated.
Till late Wednesday evening, JCB machines were pressed into service to clear the storm water drain of all the blockades. But, it remains to be seen whether this measure will be enough to keep the mud water from entering the homes again. Only the next rains will tell.
