MARGAO: The Chinchinim Citizen’s Forum (CCF) has strongly condemned the government’s proposed hike in power tariff for the financial year 2023-24, stating that the common man is already burdened with all types of payments to the Government Treasury.
The forum said it could not understand the logic behind the government’s motive to further the common man with higher payments to supply electricity and shirking its own duty.
“We wish to point out that in the monthly energy bills presented to the consumers, we are compelled to shell out money towards the so-called fixed charges, electricity duty ie Rs 0.20/Kwh and FPPCA, which amounts to quite a sum,” said CCF President Neves Anthony Rebello
“We further wish to remind the electricity department that in the past, the department would charge only for energy and meter rent, and no other fanciful fees were collected from power consumers,” Rebello added.
The forum also referred to the widespread public opposition to the proposed charges and warned the government that if it fails to drop the proposal, then it will come on the streets to protest along with other aggrieved customers.
