MARGAO: Gram Sabha members of the Chinchinim-Deussua panchayat on Sunday resolved to impose a garbage fee of Rs 25 per month on every household and business establishment in the panchayat’s jurisdiction.
The fee will be collected for the collection of dry waste and will amount to approximately Rs 300 per year. Sarpanch Valintino Barretto said that the
panchayat currently collects dry waste four times a month.
The Gram Sabha, chaired by Sarpanch Barretto, also resolved to follow up with the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) regarding the long-pending proposal for a new panchayat ghar.
Regarding the proposed new panchayat ghar, it was resolved to hold a meeting with the Managing Director of GSIDC, with whom the panchayat’s file has been pending for the last few years. The Sarpanch
expressed shock at the delay and assured villagers that follow-up action would be taken.
Sarpanch Barretto further stated that the panchayat body had conducted a tenant verification exercise and had found a sizable number of tenants staying in rented rooms in the panchayat’s jurisdiction. The same exercise will be continued in the coming days.
Other issues such as MRF shed and desilting
of ponds were also
discussed at the Gram Sabha meeting.
