Velim MLA Benjamin Silva said that the land near the CRC Chinchinim football ground currently belongs to the PWD and Water Resources Department, but the process of handing over that land for the construction of a market complex had begun.
“I am following the matter with the government departments concerned and once the handing over the land is complete, Chinchinim will have the market complex building,” said Silva.
When asked what had happened to the earlier proposals of the panchayat for which land admeasuring 9000 sq mts had been acquired to house a public utility project, Silva stated that the matter was left with the panchayat.
It maybe recalled that Chinchinim public utility project on the land that was already acquired years ago was stuck in limbo due to a divided opinion in Chinchinim and among Chinchinim panch members. This deadlock was over a debate on whether the acquired land in question should host a market complex cum panchayat ghar or a panchayat ghar cum sports complex. While that matter still remains to be solved depending when the panchayat arrives at a consensus on what project should come up on the acquired land, it appears that the market complex could finally become a reality albeit on a different piece of land in
Chinchinim.
