MARGAO: The selection of Chinchinim village’s new Sarpanch is likely to be decided on Saturday, as panchayat members are scheduled to hold an informal meeting to discuss and choose a candidate, who will subsequently be formally elected as the next Sarpanch.
It may be recalled that former Sarpanch Valentino Barretto had submitted his resignation and announced the same during the last gram sabha meeting.Barretto has reiterated that he only stepped down due to a rotational seat-sharing agreement between the members.
Sources stated that a meeting has been fixed for Monday, August 12, to officially elect the new Sarpanch.
The idea behind the informal meeting on Saturday is to see that there are no divisions between the panch members, for a unanimous decision. If there is only one application for the post, the applicant would be elected unopposed immediately.
