MARGAO: The Chinchinim -Deussua special gram sabha on Monday provided various suggestions for the draft agriculture policy including revised pricing for fencing and encourage community farming.
Other suggestions include promotion of new cash crops to benefit farmers, non-involvement of corporates, ban conversion of agricultural land, finding solutions for mangroves and early release of subsidies and revised support prices.
The locals demanded government funding be given to the farmers’ clubs/associations/societies, maintaining their record books, registered under the Society Registration Act 1860, ATMA, etc.
They suggested ‘farmers’ shacks’ to sell their produce. The sabha called for strengthening river banks either with a retaining wall or using rubble with mud.
