MARGAO: Chinchinim villagers have threatened to take to the streets if their demand for uninterrupted power supply is not met within 30 days.
A memorandum highlighting the erratic power supply to the village was submitted to Executive Engineer, Santosh Lolyienkar by Chinchinim Citizens Committee headed by Cyril Leitao and general secretary Neves Anthony Rebello.
In the memorandum, the CCC said the fluctuating power supply has been responsible for damaging people’s electrical gadgets such as refrigerators, air conditioners, TVs, etc, for no fault of theirs. It was pointed that irregular and erratic power supply is literally the order of the day in the village, especially after sunset, putting the village in darkness. “People are forced to use candles and kerosene lamps in this 21st century,’ the memorandum added.
Lolyienkar said he has discussed the matter with the Assistant Engineer and Junior engineer in charge of Chinchinim office. “I intend to call a meeting with the villagers and the power officials to find out the ground situation and work out a solution,” he said. Replying to a question, Lolyienkar said Chinchinim receives power from the Cuncolim sub-station, adding that the department will seriously weigh the option to connecting Chinchinim feeder to the nearby Velim sub-station as a long-term solution to the power woes plaguing the village.
