Chintan Shibir has been a great opportunity for us to introspect: Kawthankar

The Congress is focusing on youth and trying to get them into the party mainstream. The combative Sunil Kawthankar has never shied away from a fight – be it with senior leaders on issues such as drugs or even corruption. Now the spokesman of the party speaks to Herald on the Chintan Shibir and the way forward to try and get the party out of the paralysis that has dogged it for some time

Herald: What did you take home from the Chintin Shibir?
Sunil: Chintan Shibir has been a great opportunity for us to introspect. A proper connect with senior and second line leadership could be established, which helped in the sharing the ideas and thoughts. It has given rise to many innovative ideas and strategies which we have to put into practice in time to come.
Herald: What do you feel should be done to take this forward?
Sunil: The SWAT analysis which has been done will help us if we practically and strongly start following it. Moreover, the idea of young leaders taking higher positions has galvanized the youth leadership within the party and now it’s up to us to perform and prepare the ground for ourselves to claim the tickets, if we so desire, instead of expecting a ticket without doing any ground work or without our performance being up to the mark.
Herald: Do you feel the Congress party grassroot structure is still there?
Sunil: Firstly, I would like to make it clear that we have a party structure up to the grassroot level. But I agree that in some areas we need to activate them. Some may be hurt, some may have been neglected; but it is a thing of the past so now efforts are being made to bring the family together. Under the leadership of the new PCC president we are pretty sure that all partymen will march together.
