‘CHOGM road work will be completed before traffic diversion for Porvorim elevated corridor’

CALANGUTE: The ongoing digging work on the Chogm road stretch from the O’ Coqueiro junction to Sangolda club for the sewerage pipeline network is going on at a fast pace because it will to be completed before work on the Porvorim elevated corridor starts, stated Saligao MLA Kedar Naik.

Commuters on the Chogm road have been complaining about the constant traffic jams on the road stretch.

Talking to media, he said the Chogm road will be used for the traffic which will be diverted from the national highway due to the work of the Porvorim elevated corridor work on which is scheduled to start soon.

“Once the work starts on the Porvorim elevated corridor, then most of the traffic will be diverted on the Chogm road. Because of this, we have asked the contractor to complete all the sewerage pipeline network as fast as possible, so the work is going on all over this road, and that is why there are traffic jams. Once the elevated corridor work starts and the traffic is diverted to the Chogm road, then we will not be able to do any work for the next two years,” he said.

The sewerage pipeline network is for the entire Porvorim area including parts of Pilerne, he said. The remaining work will be taken up once the elevated corridor work is complete, he said. The Chogm road is also being widened.

Work on the elevated corridor costing Rs 364-cr is expected to start by the end of this month. The six-lane elevated highway starts at the Sangolda-Guirim junction and ends at the Hotel Neo-Majestic in Porvorim.
