‘Chopper service operators have not obtained p’yat permission’

PANJIM: The gram sabha of Se Old Goa village panchayat on Sunday resolved to issue a notice to the operators of a premium helicopter service at Old Goa for functioning without obtaining permission from the Panchayat.

The members of the gram sabha raised grave concerns over the possible impact of the helicopter reportedly flying very low, on the historical monuments in the area.

During the gram sabha, members also raised questions as to how the elected representatives of village panchayat attended the launch event, knowing that the operator didn’t apply for permission.

“The operator has not taken any permission. We will hold a meeting and decide our future course of action. A notice will be served to the concerned individual/company operating the helicopter services,” said Sandra Gonsalves, Sarpanch of Se Old Goa village panchayat.

It is pertinent to note that with an aim to boost adventure tourism in the state, the Tourism Department constructed a helipad at Old Goa and roped in a private company, and launched heli- tourism, which commenced from February 4 this year.
