PANJIM: The government authorities started repair work of the Chorao-Pomburpa bund after Herald brought the long pending issue of road inundation into limelight, said protestor Deepkumar Mapari.
Thanking media for taking up the issue, Mapari questioned, “If government was capable of issuing a work order notice at this pace, then why did they made us cry for five-long years? Is it always necessary to protest in aggression to get the work done?”
Speaking further he said, “Negligence in solving the issues of locals has become modus operandi of this incumbent government. It is unfortunate that the common man has to agitate every time to get the work done.”
“Instead of filing multiple complaints, the government authorities never paid attention to our grievances. But immediately after I went on ‘dharna’ and when the locals of Chorao threatened to block the main road, work order notice was issued,” said Mapari.
Informing that the major bund gaps are filled, Mapari said, “The bund is broken at around 9-10 places out of which three major gaps are been filled while the filling of rest of the gaps is in progress. The problem of road inundation is solved”.
Angry with the year-long inundation, Mapari, a local from Chorao had launched a unique protest by sitting on inundated road, on the day of Goa Liberation.
On account of this, locals of Chorao, Pomburpa and Mayem had threatened to block the main road as a protest against government’s failure to repair the bund connecting two khajans.
