PANJIM: Policarpo De Souza, a senior citizen and a gauncar of the Comunidade of Chorao has demanded the immediate halt of illegal hill cutting underway behind the cemetery of St Bartolomeu Church, Chorao.
In a letter to the Administrator of Comunidades, Central Zone, Panjim, De Sozua said that illegal hill cutting is going in the land belonging to the Comunidade of Chorao, which he said was supposed to protect the interests of Comunidades as per Article 74 of the Code of Comunidades. De Souza said that more and more illegalities are being carried out in the Comunidade land including the current hill cutting behind the cemetery of the church.
He has also alleged the involvement of one of the managing committee members in the illegal hill cutting and destruction of land, despite having the duty to preserve it. Following the complaintfrom the senior citizen, the flying squad visited the spot and is learnt to have stopped the illegal hill cutting.
