CHORAO: Villagers of Chorao have strongly objected to the foundation stone laying ceremony of a proposed Chorao bridge.
The villagers demanded that the approach road to the bridge should be made clear to them.
They claimed that the villagers are worried of the proposed Chorao bridge road which is supposed to pass through Chorao Island. “The panchayat and the government have failed to inform the details to the villagers,” said a villager.
“We are agitated as the draft plan of the bridge is being unofficially circulated and the residents are kept in the dark over matters pertaining to the bridge. We are surprised and we don’t have any knowledge nor got any official intimation,” said a villager.
“Some panchayat members and the MLA had convened informal meetings and had even informed that the foundation stone will be laid on May 30 on Goa Statehood day,” added the villager.
The villagers have put up a proposal to the panchayat to give detailed alignment.
Speaking to Herald, Chorao Church Parish Priest Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Soccoro D’Mello and villagers said the alignment of the road will destroy the old Cross, church parking area and a number of houses and compound walls will have to be demolished when there is clear access to the bridge road.
