PANJIM: Congress has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for once making alleged false promises and for failing to apologise for not fulfilling the previous promises made by him to Goans.
Addressing the media immediately after the public meeting of the Prime Minister, which was held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar said that Modi has only given false assurances.
Questioning the assurance on the mining issue, he said “If you know what’s to be done, then what were you doing during the last five years. If you could not do anything during all these years and it took you one year to give the mining affected people an appointment to meet, then how can people believe you further?”
He further stated that the BJP leaders have maintained that they can solve the mining issue. “They have only been giving deadlines after deadline and now the PM gives another assurance. They have no plan on how people of Goa will be compensated for the losses they have faced for all these years”, he added.
He further recalled a statement made by the Prime Minister in 2016 during his visit to Goa, where he asked to be given 50 days before terming demonetisation a failure. “Demonetisation has been the biggest failure and Modi has failed to apologise for the failure of demonetisation”, he stated.
Accusing Modi of copying Rahul Gandhi, GPCC chief spokesperson referred to the promise made by the Congress President to the fishing community during his recent to Goa, for forming a separate fisheries ministry at the Centre upon being elected to form the government.
“Today Modi has copied the same thing and promised to create a separate fishing ministry. We all knew ‘chowkidar chor hai’ but now we know ‘chowkidar copycat hai’. Modi came to Goa without studying and doing homework on Goa’s issues”, Sunil said.
Slamming the BJP leadership for assuring to provide a stable government in the State, Sunil said that Goa government’s stability is visible from the fact that two Deputy Chief Ministers had to be appointed to form the government.
