‘Chowkidar…’ remark affected Cong’s prospects, says Eduardo

MARGAO: Former union minister Eduardo Faleiro said the Congress fumbled during the recent Lok Sabha elections and “chowkidar chor hai” was a wrong statement, which affected the party’s prospects.
Speaking at the function held to observe the 55th death anniversary of the country’s first prime minister late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Eduardo suggested the party should now strengthen itself and start functioning as a true Opposition so that people gain confidence in it.
Faleiro said the Nehru’s policy of socialism, secularism and democracy reflected in the Constitution of the country strengthened India.
M K Shaikh said instead of having small functions the need of the hour is to have a massive symposium for youth to let them know about Nehru’s philosophy.
Shaikh said it was because of Nehru’s leadership that a “chaiwala” could become a prime minister.
