Christians feel intimidated, unsafe: Archbishop

PANJIM: Christians in many parts of the country feel intimidated and unsafe, said Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao on Saturday. In an exclusive interview with Herald, Archbishop Ferrao touched upon the attacks on the Christian community in the country and expressed his concern and anguish.

He said that Christians are ‘called to be instruments of peace, promoting harmony’ but when peace and harmony are threatened by communal discord, they need to ‘raise their voice against the various manifestations of this deadly malaise and work unitedly against it’.
Referring to the allegation that Mother Teresa served the poor to convert them, Archbishop Ferrao said the Blessed always ‘maintained that her main concern was to ease the suffering of the people and to help the poor and the marginalized to lead a life of self-respect’.
He also said that the harmony that exists in Goa is of ‘paramount importance for the continuation of the asmitay (unique identity)’ of the State.
