Christmas, summer vacations cut down by a day each

Ganesh holidays increased by a day; working days reduced to 234 from 236

PANJIM: Education Department has cut down Christmas and summer vacations by one day each for the academic year 2017-18, while also reducing the number of working days for primary to higher secondary schools to 234 from 236 in the current academic year. 
A circular issued by Education Director G P Bhat says the Christmas break will begin on December 23, 2017 and go on till January 1, 2018. Whereas the current academic year had 11 days holiday from December 23, 2016 till January 2, 2017. 
Interestingly, the break for Ganesh Chaturthi has been extended by one day. The vacation days have been fixed from August 23, 2017 to August 29, 2017, while last year it was six days of holidays from September 5 to 10, 2016.
The Diwali vacation has been fixed from October 16 to November 4, 2017 and summer vacation is from May 1, 2018 to June 2, 2018.
The circular also reveals that the total number of working days, including examination days, for primary to HSS shall not be less than 234 days and instructional days not less than 200 days. The first summative/mid-term exams will preferably be held from October 9 and second exam before March 30, 2018.
