MARGAO: The Fabrica of St Sebastian Church, Aquem, and the management of T B Cunha school came face to face over the repair of the school building on Thursday.
Margao police rushed to the school to avert any untoward incident as the Fabrica carried out repairs on the grounds that the school building was unsafe for occupation, while asking the management to vacate the premises. Tension was palpable when the school management opened the locks put on the premises this morning. The Management headed by Narayan Desai refused to move out, maintaining that the building is safe after carrying out the repair work.
Fabrica Attorney Adv Jawahar Dias told the media that the then district collector N D Agrawal had last year directed the school management to vacate the premises since the building was unsafe. “Till date, the school management has not obeyed the Collector’s order. We are now carrying out the repairs because it is our property. The school did not take our permission to carry out the so-called repairs. We have asked the school management to show us the property documents, but they have utterly failed to do so”, Adv Dias said.
Desai, on the other hand, maintained that Agrawal had told the management to shift the students and not to vacate the premise. “We have carried out the repairs since the Fabrica showed no interest. They just cannot come here and lock the premises. There’s no question of vacating the premises”, he said, while expressing surprise that the government agencies have till date not inspected the school premises after the repairs.
Margao PI Sudesh Naik later sent a report to the district Magistrate in view of the situation and called the two parties to work out a solution. When contacted, district magistrate Venancio Furtado said he has asked the Additional district Magistrate Morajkar to call both the parties and resolve the
imbroglio.
