He, however, said that he would attend the EIA hearing if the government still goes ahead with proposed “Tamasha” on February 1 and added that he would attend the January 31 meeting called by the Goans for Dabolim Only (GFDO) at the Lohia Maidan, Margao.
Churchill said the Mopa airport can be still scrapped, but the government is moving ahead with the airport because the major opposition party, including some regional parties and some independents are discreetly supporting the present government.
Addressing the media, Churchill said the president EIA is only to fool the Goan people and an attempt at tokenism and at best is a facade to rush ahead with the tenders for the Mopa airport. “If need be, I will personally attend this tamasha called EIA hearing. It is a cruel joke on the Goan people. Everyone can guess what the outcome of the EIA hearing will be as I suspect that the powers that be will stage manage the hearing in their favour by stifling the voices of the protestors”, Churchill said.
