MARGAO: President of Churchill Brothers Sports Club Churchill Alemao on Saturday categorically stated that at no time the AIFF had verbally requested the Churchill Brothers officials to return the Federation Cup.
Referring to a statement made by an AIFF official that the Federation is now bracing up to dash off an official letter to the Churchill Brothers Sports Club to return back the Cup, Churchill said that this only goes to show that the AIFF had failed to intimate the club about returning the cup, adding “this only shows the inefficiency and incompetency of the AIFF”.
Demanding an apology from AIFF for the statement that its officials had contacted club officials to hand over the cup, Churchill said the AIFF should act in the spirit of the game and for the welfare of the sport and clubs in India. “As for convention and process, the reigning champions are handed over documents acknowledging them as champions accompanied by a replica of the trophy which has not been done in the case of Churchill Brothers”, he said.
Churchill also refuted the news item that he had vowed not to return the Federation Cup to the AIFF if justice is not done to his team. Churchill, however, had on Thursday stated that he will not return the cup to the AIFF. While speaking to a local TV channel, Churchill had stated that “the Federation Cup is with me. I will not return the cup. Let them challenge it in
the court and I will go to
the court”.
