PANJIM, MARCH 26
The issue of irregular water supply faced by people in Porvorim and some other parts of Bardez came to haunt PWD Minister Churchill Alemao even this Session of Goa Assembly with Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar alleging that a racket of persons supplying water through tankers is in operation in connivance some employees of the PWD.
Pointing out that people in Bardez including himself is not receiving regular water supply, Parrikar said, water supply has been affected due to collapse of management system rather than less availability of water while raising the issue during Zero Hour on Friday.
He charged that some employees working for water supply division of PWD are hand in-glove with water tanker owners and those persons must be immediately transferred to regulate supply of water.
The tanker owners are minting money, Parrikar alleged even as the PWD Minister said he is trying his best to improve supply of water and it would be regulated by June 2010 when Assonora water treatment plant will be augmented. The new plant will provide additional water of 50 MLD, he said.
In the next six months time water supply will be regulated, he added. “Will you resign if situation does not change” asked Parrikar who was not convinced by minister’s reply and insisted that some of the persons in the water sections who have been sitting tight on the same posts for the last ten-twelve years be transferred.
However, Alemao said , it if does so then MLAs will come running to revoke transfer orders. Parrikar as well as Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar who had raised the issue of irregular water supply during last session of the assembly , assured the minister that he is free to transfer erring employees and they both will not interfere with his decision.
In fact, Parrikar further pointed out that no MLA will like to intervene if he is explained that transfer has been effected to regulate water supply and greater good of people.
