In view of Alemao’s recent overtures to the Congress party and the uncertainty prevailing over this decision, his meetings in Navelim assumes significance as Alemao plans to contest from Benaulim for the next assembly elections.
Confirming this desire, while speaking to his supporters at the meetings held in Navelim constituency, Alemao said that he was planning on contesting from Navelim and would like to join the Congress if offered the seat.
He tried to portray an image where he and Goa Pradesh Congress President Luizinho Faleiro were on talking terms and called on his supporters to remain united if he had to contest from Benaulim on the Congress ticket and Luizinho from Navelim. He was evasive when asked if he would support Luizinho from Navelim if given the Benaulim ticket but added that it was important for everyone to be united to defeat the BJP.
Responding to queries from supporters of his plans if denied the ticket, Alemao said that he would contest from Benaulim as an independent and field a candidate from Navelim.
He chose to focus on the failings of the BJP and how BJP would not win the upcoming elections.
Alemao plans to visit the villages of Navelim, Telaulim and Aquem Baixo next as the reports of his plans to contest from Benaulim have not gone well with sections of his supporters from Navelim.
