MARGAO: Former minister and Ex-Benaulim MLA, Churchill Alemao, has tendered his resignation from the Trinamool Congress Party. Churchill had contested the 2022 Goa Assembly elections from the Benaulim Constituency on the Trinamool ticket.
Although, there are speculations about his potential move to the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar group), Churchill stated that he has not yet finalised his next political move.
Confirming his interaction with NCP leader Praful Patel, Churchill indicated that he and his daughter, Valanka Alemao, held discussions on various issues and politics during the meeting.
“I’m yet to decide on joining NCP again,” he said.
Churchill Alemao is no stranger to political party switches, having moved between different parties on multiple occasions. He had joined TMC in the past out of frustration over the delay in forming an alliance between NCP and Congress. Churchill was elected as the sole NCP MLA in the 2017 elections. Prior to that, he had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a TMC candidate.
Notably, Churchill Alemao had a brief stint of 18 days as Goa’s Chief Minister back in 1990. Over the years, he has maintained affiliations with the United Goans Democratic Party, Congress, and Save Goa Front, reflecting his dynamic political journey.
A few months ago, Churchill had acknowledged that his decision to join TMC was a mistake. “I have realised that the people of Goa neither accepted the TMC at the time of the last Assembly elections nor now,” he said, adding that he is yet to take the final decision on joining any other political party.
