Welcome to Navelim in Salcete as the signboard reads in the picture. New academic year have started. One can see all motorists wearing helmets, traffic cops doing their duties and yet traffic jam.
One can see heavy traffic in the picture at Navelim junction, though there was order from the Deputy Collector that heavy traffic to be stopped during school peak hours.
The south bound traffic had to be stopped near Dr Francis Gomes District Library for this period and north bound heavy traffic to be stopped near St Francis Xavier Chapel, Fradilem-Navelim during morning hours and during noon when school classes ends. Sadly, this order is not implemented hence there is regular traffic congestion at Navelim junction.
Another suggestion is that south bound bus stop in front of Rosary church need to be shifted.
Hundreds of school and college going students and also parishioners and highway commuters face hardship here. We also require speed breakers here in the interest of safety of students.
